Mikaben, a Haitian singer and son of the famed singer Lionel Benjamin, has passed away. He was 41 years old.

As per Entertainment Tonight, fans watched Mikaben collapse as he made his way off stage in Paris, France, on Saturday, 15 October 2022, after what is believed to have been a heart attack.

He was a guest of the Haitian group Carimi and performed at the 20 000-seat Accor Arena in eastern Paris.

Medics were immediately called to render aid to the musician, and he was given CPR. Consequently, fans were asked to leave the venue as the medical team worked to revive him. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.

The Accor Arena confirmed his death on Twitter.

“Last night during the Carimi concert, one of the singers, Michael Benjamin, Mikaben of his artist name died following a malaise on stage and despite the intervention of the emergency services,” They wrote.

Mikaben biography

Michael Benjamin was born on 27 June 1981in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was the son of the famous Haitian singer Lionel Benjamin.

Coming from a long lineage of artists, music was in Mikaben’s DNA. The singer started his career when he was very young. Mikaben completed his primary education at a private school.

He launched his career as a solo singer and performer in the late 1990s. In 2000, he released his debut albumYájaj, which was followed by Mika in 2004.

In addition, Mikaben became the lead singer of the Haitian Konpa group Krezi Mizik in 2005. He released the first Krezi Mizik album in 2006 called Ayiti San Manti.

Mikaben built a fan base in Haiti, Europe, the United States, and the French Caribbean.

The late musician could sing in four languages – Spanish, Creole, English, and French. Additionally, he knew how to play multiple instruments like the keyboard, drums, guitar and bass.

He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Benjamin, who, at the time of his death, was expecting their third child.
